The Lionville Lightning 12U (2017-18) took 2nd Place in the 2017 Tri-County League Fall Fest tourney at Barness Park in Warrington, PA on Saturday, October 28th.  Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the Annual Fall Fest tournament was forced to be condensed down to 1-day which meant a long day of softball.

Lionville started the day with a scrappy 6th inning 2-1 victory over VF Patriots. The game was tied at one with Lionville batting in the top of the sixth when Kaitlyn Ward launched a triple over the head of the left fielder followed by a Rachel Kleckner double on a 1-2 count, scoring the winning run.  Taylor Hendricks (winning pitcher) allowed four hits and one run over six innings, striking out six and walking one.  Lionville was sure-handed in the field by not allowing a single error.  Mavica Mendez had a key put out in the bottom of the 6th inning when VF  Patriots lead off hitter attempted to steal second.

In Game 2, Lionville didn't fair as well vs. the Banshee's as they fell 11-0, moving the Lightning to the losers bracket with all remaining games to be played in a "winner moves on / loser goes home" format.

With a much needed 2 hour rest, the Lionville Lightning jumped out to an early lead in Game 3 as Rachel Kleckner  threw a 1-hit gem, allowing zero runs and besting VF Patriots by a score of 5-0 to advance to the Semi Finals.  Mavica Mendez, Kayla Williams, Camryn Eadie & Jocelyn Slonacker each had one hit to lead Lionville.  M.J. Nicholson had the most chances in the field with five as the Lightning Ladies were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Avery Kelly led the way with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases.

Lionville Lightning was victorious over Chaos in a low-scoring Game 4 affair advancing the team to 'The SHIP'.  Both teams were strong on the mound Saturday, but Lionville Lightning defeated Chaos 3-2 as time expired. Taylor Hendricks allowed just three hits & striking out five, over four innings.  Lionville Lightning grabbed an early lead with scores on a single by Taylor Hendricks, a double by Kaitlyn Ward, and a single by Myah Scheirer in the first inning.  In a total team effort, Myah Scheirer, Taylor Hendricks, Mavica Mendez, Kaitlyn Ward, Kayla Williams, M.J. Nicholson, and Jocelyn Slonacker each collected one hit to lead the team. Lionville Lightning was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.

In the finals, the Lionville Lightning ladies lost 3-1 in a well-played rematch vs. the Banshees.  Congratulations to the Lionville Lightning ladies who battled hard to a well deserved 3-2 tournament record and a 2nd place finish that qualified them for the ASA Nationals... all in their 1st tournament together as a brand new team!

Wow! You did a pretty great job considering that this is your first tournament. You may not have won the first place, but you definitely pushed yourself to the limits! As I always say, being an athlete should not be about aiming to always win all of the tournaments you participate in. Being an athlete is about how you will build yourself a good character, moral, and skill. It is about using your skills to make yourself a better person.
